Given the choice, I’d rather live someplace where it’s always 70, sunny and rain only happens overnight when I’m sleeping and don’t need to trudge through it. This is the opposite of what summers are like here in upstate New York. The heat and humidity these last few days slaps me in the face every time I step outside the back porch door.
It’s a cruel joke that summer gifts us with so many incredible fruits right at a time when no one wants to turn on their ovens or stoves, except me perhaps. When Michael was alive I used to do all my summer baking while he was at work so the house would cool down enough by time he got home. He always thought I was crazy for doing anything more than grilling or using the stovetop during this time of year, although he didn’t mind enjoying all the treats.
For those of you like me who aren’t letting a little heat get in the way of a homemade cake, cobbler, pies, muffins and scones, this e-book includes 20 of my favorite recipes over the years using cherries, blueberries, peaches, and apricots. Not in the mood for anything that requires the oven? I’ve got something for you, too, in this book. There’s apricot lemon-thyme soda, cherry basil soda, cherry cashew milk, and some icy treats.
My Summer Fruits E-Book is available to all paid subscribers (for new subscribers, you can find more e-books here). You’ll find the link to the book at the end of this post. Thank you for supporting my work.
Hope the week has been a gentle one. Be well and remember to be kind. –xo, j.
