I never enjoyed working out, even when I used to hit the David Barton gym near my office in Soho at 6:00am back in my 20s. For most of my life, I viewed working out as something I did to lose weight, or at least not gain any.
So, it’s with great surprise to tell you how much I love my fitness routine today. I wish I knew at 20 what I now know at 50: the goal of any fitness routine should be to feel good in my body. It sounds so simple, and almost foolish to write, but it’s taken me the better part of my life to truly embrace this idea that the payoff from working out is an internal reward, even if it results in noticeable external changes the rest of the world can see.
